Artificial Flavor

Buy another TV for a room I never sit in.
Buy another CD to tickle my ears and make me forget the world outside me.
Give me another doctrinal discussion to make me feel important.
Give me another lesson on how to be happy where I am.
Blast the stereo, maybe God will come back when I am ready.
Blast the headlines, scripture just seems so old.
Give me another movie to get lost in.
Give me another artificial flavor.

  1. “Give me another doctrinal discussion to make me feel important.” I know I’m so tempted there, and maybe doctrinal discussions were profitable and sufficient (mostly) when I was in junior high and high school, laying the foundation of searching things out and sharpening my beliefs on those wiser than me. But now I really am begging God for application. “Give me another lesson on how to be happy where I am.” That is such a cop-out for me, and I wish no one ever said it was good to be who I am and God accepts me as I am so no worries. I need challenged. Does it bother you to have people commentary on each line of your poems? Like explaining a punch line? Hm. I guess you could disable comments if you were annoyed at that. I’m saying your poem is relevant. I like how straightforwad it is. To God be all glory, Lisa of Longbourn

  2. i hear ya bro. these days im lost in movies quite a bit and i buy way too much music. its not much different than alcoholism or other addictions precipitated by a desire to avoid awareness of pain.
